How to Create a Wi-Fi QR Code So Guests Can Join Instantly
Reading out a long Wi-Fi password to every guest gets old fast. A Wi-Fi QR code lets anyone connect by simply pointing their camera at it — no typing, no spelling out "zero or capital O". Here's how to make one and use it safely.
How it works
A Wi-Fi QR code encodes three things in a standard format your phone understands: the network name (SSID), the password, and the security type (almost always WPA/WPA2). When scanned, the phone offers to join automatically.
Step by step
- Open the QR code generator and choose the Wi-Fi tab.
- Enter your network name exactly as it appears (it's case-sensitive).
- Type the password and pick the security type — leave it on WPA/WPA2 unless you know it's WEP or open.
- Download as SVG if you're going to print it (stays sharp at any size) or PNG for screens.
Where to put it
- Cafés, salons, clinics: a small framed card on the counter or table.
- Home: stick it inside a guest-room drawer or on the fridge.
- Rentals / Airbnb: in the welcome booklet.
Security tips
- The password is readable by anyone who scans the code — so only display it where you'd be comfortable sharing the password anyway.
- For businesses, use a separate guest network rather than your main one. Then a printed code is no risk to your internal devices.
- If you ever change the Wi-Fi password, generate a fresh code — the old one will stop working (as it should).
Privacy
Our generator builds the code entirely in your browser, so your network name and password are never sent to any server. The result is a static code — it works forever and isn't tracked.
FAQ
Does this work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Modern iOS and Android cameras recognize Wi-Fi QR codes natively — just point and tap the prompt.
What if my password has special characters?
That's fine — the standard format escapes them correctly, so symbols like ; , : work.
Is my password uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is generated locally in your browser.
